A Conversation with Fiorella Erni
Trained anthropologist, professional negotiator, and founder of Cheetah Stories, Fiorella Erni has spent her career working in some of the world's most demanding rooms — from humanitarian operations to high-stakes negotiation environments across continents.
She started Cheetah Stories from a frustration she couldn't ignore: luxury heels that forced women to choose between elegance, comfort, and values. So she built the alternative herself, handcrafted in Italy, made without compromise.
At the heart of everything she creates is a single belief: a heel should never ask a woman to shrink. It should hold her.
Standing Tall: A Conversation with Fiorella Erni, Founder of Cheetah Stories
When a professional negotiator decides to build a luxury footwear brand, the questions write themselves. But spend five minutes with Fiorella Erni and the logic becomes clear. She has spent her career studying power, presence, and the way people carry themselves through difficult rooms. Cheetah Stories is not a departure from that work. It is an extension of it.
After years of working internationally in humanitarian operations and negotiation, Fiorella founded Cheetah Stories in Switzerland with a precise ambition: to create consciously made, handcrafted heels for women who move through the world with intention. The brand is PETA-approved vegan, made to order in Le Marche, Italy, and designed by legendary shoe designer Mark Schwartz.
In this exclusive interview, Fiorella Erni opens up about why she built Cheetah Stories, what conscious luxury actually demands, and why standing tall has always been about far more than a pair of heels.
Why did you create Cheetah Stories?
Because I could never find heels that brought together elegance, comfort, craftsmanship, and values in the same object.
Luxury heels were often beautiful but painful. Comfortable shoes lacked emotion. And consciously made luxury footwear almost didn't exist.
I wanted to create heels women could actually live in. Heels that support movement, confidence, and presence without asking them to compromise who they are.
A heel should hold more than height. It should hold the woman wearing it.
Why the name Cheetah Stories?
We didn't want to build a brand around ourselves. We wanted to build it around the women wearing the shoes and the lives they lead.
The cheetah kept returning as an image. Elegant yet powerful. Feminine yet instinctive. Quiet, but impossible to ignore. A cheetah never forces attention. Its presence changes the room. That felt right.
And then there are the stories. The moments women carry through life: the negotiation, the wedding speech, the reinvention, the decision to leave, the decision to begin again. Cheetah Stories exists for those moments.
What does "Stand Tall" really mean?
It means refusing to shrink yourself.
Carrying yourself with clarity and dignity, especially in moments that ask something of you. Sometimes standing tall looks like asking for more. Sometimes it looks like leaving what no longer feels right. Sometimes it simply means walking into a room fully as yourself.
Our heels are never about performance. They are about reinforcement. A quiet reminder of who you already are.
What does conscious luxury mean to you?
Luxury with awareness.
Beautiful products do not exist in isolation. People make them. Materials shape them. Supply chains affect communities and ecosystems.
For us, luxury should feel beautiful not only to the eye but to the conscience.
It is not about perfection. It is about intention, responsibility, and the willingness to keep asking better questions.
Why did you choose vegan materials?
Because innovation finally allows us to create extraordinary products without relying on animal leather or exotic skins.
For a long time, people associated vegan fashion with compromise. That has changed. Today's next-generation materials can feel soft, refined, durable, and genuinely luxurious while reflecting a different set of values.
Luxury should evolve. There is no reason it shouldn't.
Are vegan luxury shoes truly luxurious?
Absolutely.
Luxury is not defined by animal materials. It is defined by beauty, craftsmanship, innovation, and care. Some of the materials we work with surprise people immediately because they look and feel indistinguishable from traditional luxury leather.
The difference is often emotional. Luxury feels different when it sits lightly on the conscience.
How do you balance sustainability and luxury?
Historically, luxury was already rooted in what we now call sustainable principles: craftsmanship, longevity, scarcity, and slower production. The problem came when scale replaced care.
At Cheetah Stories, we believe in fewer, better things. Pieces designed to be worn, repaired, kept, and valued over time. That is why we work in limited made-to-order quantities and focus on timeless silhouettes rather than seasonal turnover.
Why does comfort matter so much to you?
Because women should not have to suffer to feel elegant. A heel should work with the body, not against it. At Cheetah Stories, comfort begins with engineering: the last, the balance, the heel placement, the cushioning, the structure.
Most discomfort comes from poor design decisions, not from heels themselves. We wanted to fix that.
What makes the Cheeletto last special?
The Cheeletto last was specifically developed for long wear and balance. Its softer, rounded toe shape gives the foot more natural space while preserving an elegant silhouette. The heel placement is aligned beneath the centre of gravity to improve stability and posture.
Small technical decisions create enormous differences in how a woman feels after hours of wear.
Can high heels really be comfortable?
Yes, when they are designed correctly.
Comfortable heels are the result of thoughtful engineering. Balance, structure, cushioning, support, and fit all matter. At Cheetah Stories, we integrate comfort so it disappears into the shoe. The goal is not visible comfort. The goal is felt confidence.
Why did Mark Schwartz join the project?
After decades of designing for some of the world's most iconic luxury houses, Mark was looking for something more meaningful.
He often says he did not want his final chapter in fashion to simply repeat what already existed. He wanted to help shape a different vision of luxury: one rooted in individuality, craftsmanship, emotional connection, and conscious design. That aligned naturally with where we were going.
How does Mark approach shoe design?
For Mark, a heel is never just footwear. It changes posture, movement, confidence, and presence.
Every silhouette begins as a hand sketch, often inspired by movement, architecture, or a fleeting moment. He designs instinctively, detached from trends and algorithms.
The goal is never to follow fashion. The goal is to create something that a woman can emotionally connect with.
Why are your shoes made in Italy?
Because craftsmanship matters deeply to us. Every pair is handcrafted in Le Marche, one of the world's great centres of luxury shoemaking. The region carries generations of knowledge: last makers, pattern makers, artisans who understand footwear at the highest level.
Beautiful things take time.
Why made to order?
Made-to-order allows us to create with intention rather than excess. Each pair is handcrafted in limited quantities after purchase, reducing unnecessary inventory while preserving the quality and care the process deserves. We see our heels as timeless pieces rather than seasonal products.
Slower production creates a different relationship with luxury. One built on value rather than volume.
What should a woman feel when wearing Cheetah Stories?
Elegant. Grounded. Confident. Supported. Fully herself.
Our heels are designed to feel like a quiet ally. Something that says: I've got you. Because confidence often begins with how we feel in our own bodies.
Why do heels matter emotionally?
Because posture changes emotion. Movement changes emotion too.
Heels can transform the way a woman walks into a room, carries herself, and experiences her own presence. Not because she becomes someone else. But because she feels more connected to herself. That is very different.
What makes a woman unforgettable?
Presence.
A woman who knows herself. A woman with clear boundaries. A woman who moves with intention. Sometimes what makes someone unforgettable is not what she says. It is the way she carries herself.
Elegant. Instinctive. Certain.
